A Few Words From Our Founder
Why choose Little Red for my child? There are so many options for preschool....
When I opened Little Red House in Yorktown Heights in 2008, I came to it from a different perspective. I was an educator, but I was also a mother searching for the right preschool experience for my own child, who had a speech delay.
As I toured schools, I kept finding the same approach again and again. What I wanted was something more personal — a place where children would be understood as individuals, where differences were respected, and where learning could happen in a warm, positive environment.
That idea became Little Red House.
My philosophy has always been simple: children learn best when they feel happy, safe, supported, and confident. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Our teachers work with children in small groups, respect individual learning styles and developmental milestones, and create opportunities for every child to experience success.
When I make decisions for Little Red, I still do so from both perspectives — as an educator and as a parent. I want our classrooms to be places where children feel known, encouraged, and excited to learn.
With the help of an extraordinary staff, we have built a program centered around what matters most: your children.
Little Red House is not a franchise. We are a locally owned, woman-owned small business, and I am incredibly grateful to the families and community who have supported us over the years.

Melanie is an engaged educator with a true love of teaching. She has a true passion for helping staff, children and families learn new and innovative ways to educate the young mind. Starting Little Red over fifteen years ago has helped her learn the importance of running a child centered program with organic opportunities for growth and development.

Ms. Victoria has been here with us for about 9 years. In her time here, she began as a teaching assistant and then a lead teacher. She now balances being a head teacher as well as some directorial duties within her classroom. Another skilled educator, Victoria is finishing up her tri-certification masters degree in ECE and teaching. Victoria is an engaged, enthusiastic & imaginative educator.

Programs
Understanding Who we are
Before we tell you about our programs, it’s important to understand what makes Little Red different. We are not a franchise or a one-size-fits-all preschool. We are a locally owned school where children are known as individuals, relationships matter, and learning is shaped around each child’s developmental needs, interests, and personality.
We believe children learn best when they feel happy, secure, confident, and comfortable being themselves. Our goal is to create an environment where children can build independence, develop friendships, explore new ideas, and feel proud of who they are.
Preschool Program
Our preschool program combines meaningful learning with plenty of time to play, explore, create, and socialize.
Children participate in a wide variety of age-appropriate experiences throughout the day, including early literacy and math, science, STEM, art, music and movement, circle time, sensory play, dramatic play, fine-motor activities, and outdoor play.
Rather than expecting every child to learn in exactly the same way or at the same pace, our teachers use small-group activities and hands-on experiences to meet children where they are and help them continue to grow.
We also focus on the skills that matter far beyond preschool — communication, independence, problem-solving, confidence, self-help skills, cooperation, and learning how to be part of a classroom community.
At Little Red, your child is never simply another name on a roster. We want every child to feel known, valued, and supported.
