Why choose Little Red for my child? There are so many options for preschool....
That is such a big question, but one I would love to answer. When I first began the journey of opening a preschool in Yorktown Heights over fifteen years ago, I began from a different mindset than most people starting their own businesses begin. My ideals were grown from my experience as an educator as well as being a mother of a child with a speech impairment. I spent so much time looking at preschools for my child when I realized something, everyone does things mostly the same way. So many child care facilities but not what I considered a true preschool experience that I dreamed of for my child. School tour after school tour I was left without inspiration or encouragement that my child would be respected for their individuality. I felt this was not in line with the way preschool should be and that is where Little Red was born.
When I make decisions for our school, they come from both the point of view as a mother and educator. My philosophies regarding young children do not fall in one particular pedagogy but rather in a simple statement, "Children are to be happy if we want them to learn and children need the proper positive environment to thrive." In watching many preschools do everything the same way, I learned that differences are what make you shine, what set you apart from the others.
To that end, we do things differently here. We respect each child's learning style and milestones by placing them in small groups, no one size fits all learning here, from gifted children to children who need extra help, I care about your children. Nothing makes me happier than watching them succeed and I know, in order to do that, we must have a safe, loving and worry free environment. Together, with the help of my outstanding staff, this is what Little Red is all about, your children.
Not a franchise, but rather a woman owned, local and small business, I could not do it without the wonderful community I am surrounded by.
Sincerely,
Melanie Sindaco

Before we get to far ahead in describing our program to you, it is important for you to know who we are and who we are not. We are not a franchise, not a huge preschool, not a place that your child will be another face in the crowd, not another one size fits all preschool. We are however a school that fosters leadership and individuality. What does that mean? It means that we want your child to feel good about being themselves because that is indeed how children learn best! When children are relaxed and feel good in their own skin comes the most beautiful thing, development.
Preschool Program -
We have a great balance of socialization time and academic time here. This is not the sort of school where we “baby-sit” while you are at work. We are keeping everyone busy with alphabet time, science time, reading time, manipulative teams and more. Our busy day helps the child to be able to fully enjoy the meaning of school and appreciate the things he or she has learned that they will take with them through their elementary school years.
Our preschool program starts at age two and runs through age six. In this program, we do a large variety of lesson plans with the children and use topics in each of our daily activities that reinforce the topic of that day. We do Science, Reading Beginnings, Circle Time, Math, Current Events, STEM and MORE! We also do special lessons and use special equipment to work on fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, letter forming as well as recognition, self help skills, socialization, and discovery.
Our program is unique because it is truly based off of the individual needs of each child. Your child will never be lost in the crowd in our school as your child is a person and should be viewed as more then a number in a classroom.
